I spoke to a supervisor and was still told this was not possible. I stopped by the hotel check-in and asked to view a room so I could recommend the hotel to my friends upon returning home. I found it to be priced about the same as other casino buffets. I was impressed with the freshness of the salads, but the other items lacked in freshness and in taste. Unfortunately the food did not match the presentation. I ate at the buffet and found the presentation to be lovely. I will give it a little while to work the kinks out and complete the various projects, but I will return. I would recommend it for anyone wanting a close weekend gaming trip. It is the newest casino in Lake Charles and does have somewhat of a Vegas feel. I believe this resort is a work in progress and hope that construction projects are completed in a timely manner. It is tastefully decorated and if Tillman Fertitta's other properties are any indication, it will be maintained exquisitely. All of the slot machines are shiny and new. The building and atmosphere at GN is nice, but I won't go back. I know sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but a few small payouts in between would help soften the same end result - overall big loss. (Golden Nugget easily has them beat on food though.) We've played all night long on the same money we lost in an hour at Golden Nugget.

The big competitor in Kinder has much more to offer, great comps and benefits, better payouts, more machines, tables with lower minimums, better drink service on the floor, self-serve sodas and icees, and is just a lot more fun. With more of the same (minus the crowds) at the casino in the morning, we decided to call it quits. We steadily pulled off plate after plate to see scraps of food still stuck to them. The first plate I pulled out had something gooey underneath, and when I turned it over, it was egg and food scraps from the last go-round. The dishes in the buffet lines were dirty. The service was not (and they ask you to tip the waitress as soon as you pay, before you've even had any service at all, at a buffet. We tried the Saturday morning brunch buffet, which was way overpriced. Not wanting to lose a fortune, we didn't play for very long. When we did, it gobbled up money with almost no payouts (or "wins" that are less than the initial bet - not a win in my book). The floor was packed and it was hard to find a machine. Waiting longer than the people behind me was my apparent destiny. But they stopped at random points in the line to decide who continued to wait while the person behind them got an instant card. For some reason, they had people at the counters, then people going through the line to instantly grant cards to newbies. Our waiter's name was Bruce, and I still remember it a month later because he was so nice and gave us great service. (That table and several others were empty during the entire time we waited - it's almost like they were trying to create lines.) The food WAS really good and service once we had a table was excellent. We waited close to an hour for a table at Claim Jumper's. Unfortunately, when we visited (just after Christmas), the place was packed with people.

I imagined Landry's amazing food and great service, with Fertitta's big money backing. I have never enjoyed any of the Lake Charles casinos as much as the bigger competitor in Kinder. Don't be tempted to stop short - keep driving just a little further.
